After two years of planning and construction, YXE Saskatoon Airport is excited to share that its primary runway, 09/27, has reopened.
The primary runway (09/27) rehabilitation project was completed over two construction seasons beginning in the summer of 2022. This project was implemented as part of our lifecycle rehabilitation cycle, in which runways are required to be resurfaced approximately every 25 years.
Its newly resurfaced runway will keep the Saskatoon Airport available for use by its partners and community for years to come. With the official project completion, runway 09/27 will be reopened to all air traffic. Surrounding communities will see a return to normal traffic patterns over Saskatoon skies as we revert to using our primary runway for the majority of landings and take-offs.
As a private, not-for-profit corporation operating on a user-pay model, YXE Saskatoon Airport relies on Airport Improvement Fees to finance significant capital projects. Of the $16-million total project cost, the airport was able to secure 50 per cent funding through the federal government’s Airport Critical Infrastructure Program. YXE Saskatoon Airport is grateful for the cooperation and support it has received from its airlines, partners, staff, contractors, and community to complete this milestone project.
