The Northern Air Transport Association and the Canadian Council for Aviation & Aerospace are pleased to announce the signing of a partnership agreement to establish skill development activities for the aviation industry in Northern Canada. These activities include:
  • Establishing training centres, initially in Yellowknife and Whitehorse, in partnership with Northern operators to offer a variety of technical workshops to assist operators in providing more cost effective training on regulations, skills, and Safety Management Systems.
  • Accrediting industry experts as course instructors to reduce travel costs and provide a northern operational perspective.
  • Working with operators, ideally through a Skills Development Committee, to make sure northerners have the necessary skill sets for today and the future.
  • Establish a Basic Aviation Worker Training Program combining classroom and on the job experience. The materials for this program have already been developed for a high school environment and can be adapted as needed for Northern needs. The program could be sponsored by companies, or other groups such as Air Cadets. The program provides students with the essential skills required by employers in the industry.
  • Working with territorial and provincial governments to best access resources to assist Northerners with their skill development needs, whether organizations or individuals.
