The Canadian Business Aviation Association (CBAA) is warning of a new Trojan email virus aimed specifically at the aviation industry.
CBAA issued an alert Wednesday about emails that purport to be looking for charter operators to fulfil flight requests, with a ZIP attachment that contains a virus whose intent is to steal confidential information from the recipients.
The emails are being sent from a variety of aviation domains, such as acpjets.aero, apollojets.com and Travelworx.aero.
The message poses as someone seeking a reservation, with questions such as:
“Will you be able to assist as we are looking for a helicopter charter; Needs to be either a twin or a single with destination and passengers details attached?”
Another example cited in the CBAA warning reads as follows:
“I have a capacity question. This leg will have 5 passengers plus a dog but we have been informed that they came with quite a bit of luggage for the outbound. They will likely have 10-12 decent size bags with then plus a set of golf clubs. Do you see any issues?”
Flight operations are being told to never open a ZIP file in an email and to never open any file contained inside the ZIP file.
