Vintage planes take to the skies this week

Waterloo Warbirds Press Release | June 9, 2022

Estimated reading time 3 minutes, 10 seconds.

From Wednesday, June 8th to Saturday, June 11th, 2022, you may have a chance to see a wide variety of vintage aircraft overhead in Waterloo Region and the surrounding area.

Waterloo Warbirds and the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association are holding a formation training clinic at the Region of Waterloo International Airport, hosting pilots from their organizations as well as other private pilots from across Ontario. The clinic will train participants on the Formation and Safety Team (FAST) standard, a common program used by pilots worldwide that standardizes formation practices between organizations.

The clinic will be attended by a number of North American Harvard aircraft, vintage jets from Waterloo Warbirds, and several other historic planes. Weather permitting, flights will be taking place between approximately 10 AM and 6 PM daily over the course of the 3-day clinic, with a rain date scheduled for Saturday, June 11th. They may fly over the Region of Waterloo, the north end of Guelph, and communities between Stratford and Woodstock.

To help ensure regular airport operations remain smooth and to maintain the health and safety of airport staff, visitors, and clinic participants, we ask that any spectators watch from their homes and refrain from coming to the airport.

More detailed information and regular updates on each day’s activities will be shared on Waterloo Warbirds’ Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter accounts. Videos and photos captured during the clinic can also be tagged with @waterloowarbirds on all 3 platforms.
