Throughout Canada’s military history, hundreds of thousands of Canadians have volunteered to serve their country in conflicts and peacekeeping missions around the world.

Many have paid the ultimate sacrifice. On Remembrance Day, we honour their memory and service, and pay tribute to those currently serving Canada at home and abroad.

This Saturday, Nov. 11, Waterloo Warbirds will take to the skies to honour Canada’s veterans, active service members, and their families and friends.

Their T-33 Silver Star, L29 Delfin, and DH-115 Vampire aircraft will fly in formation over cenotaphs in New Hamburg, Stratford, Linwood, Elmira, Waterloo, Kitchener, Preston, and Galt, Ont.

Their Second World War Harvard Mk. IIB will fly over cenotaphs in Hespeler and Guelph, Ont., before continuing on to fly over Homewood Health Centre and Woodlawn Memorial Park in Guelph, and Mount Hope Cemetery and Woodland Cemetery in Kitchener.

All aircraft will take off at approximately 10:30 a.m. from the Region of Waterloo International Airport.

“We have immense appreciation for the sacrifice of those who serve and have served Canada in our militaries,” said Derek Hammond, president of Waterloo Warbirds. “We hope with these flights we can join our communities in honouring our service members and showing our respect.”

More information on the flights will be shared on Waterloo Warbirds’ social media channels (@waterloowarbirds on Facebook and Instagram, and @waterloowarbird on X, the social network formerly known as Twitter) as Remembrance Day approaches.
